Toronto rapper and Northstarr label head D.O. (short for ‘Defy the Odds’) presents “Capture The Moonlight”, his new single featuring Joell Ortiz and Saukrates. “Moonlight” will be featured on Down Home, D.O.’s forthcoming album produced entirely by JUNO award-winning producer Classified and also featuring Chad Hatcher, Maestro Fresh Wes, Mic Boyd, Spesh K, J-Bru and Jake Boyd. D.O. is the 2003 Guinness World Record holder for longest freestyle rap (video), a regular public speaker with his own school tour program Stay Driven, a Toronto Independent Music Award nominee (for his 2007 album Northstarr), a #1 CMJ artist and regularly performs internationally, most recently performing as one half of the duo Art Of Fresh alongside Snoop Dogg and ASAP Rocky at Croatia’s Fresh Island Fest, Europe’s biggest beach festival. “It was an honour having Saukrates on the track because he’s someone that I grew up listening to and is legendary especially in Canada,” says D.O. about the track. “The funny thing is, the beat’s name was ‘Slaughter’ - as in ‘Slaughterhouse’ - as Classified had those guys in mind when he made the beat. So when I saw Joell was touring Canada, we were able to connect and make it work. ‘Capture The moonlight’ describes what it’s like being an artist. You’re usually making music late at night and trying to get that spark, get that light and capture that sound and feeling. I think that’s what we were able to do on this track.” Down Home drops April 22. See below for D.O.’s upcoming tour dates.

Los Angeles rappers Born @LAbornallah and @OGErule
present the Empty Marlett-directed music video for “Dub Fritterz”, the NGAFSH-produced new single from the Dub Fritterz EP, which also features a verse from Planet Asia. “Fritterz” features Belizian songstress Blaq Suga on the hook. Born Allah and ERule made their names in Los Angeles’ Project Blowed/Good Life freestyle rap scene documented in the 2008 documentary This Is The Life(which features Born Allah) which also spawned the likes of Freestyle Fellowship and Jurassic 5. A regular on Sway & Tech’s Wake Up Show (click to watch Born Allah on the Wake Up Show), Born Allah wrote and recorded the theme to their open mic segment of the “11 O’Clock Battles” show, was a regular on the L.A. battle scene, and even penned a song for pop group New Kids On The Block at age 14 (click to stream “Are You Down”). ERule made the cover of Rap Pages in 1994 on the strength of his Pallas Records single “Listen Up/Synopsis” (click to watch the video), and has worked with Ice-T, Mykill Miers and Myka 9 of Freestyle Fellowship. “The term ‘Dub Fritterz’ comes from a dish from Belize called a conch fritter,” says Born Allah. “We got the idea because Blaq Suga is from L.A. by way of Belize. So we replaced the Conch with the Dub, which is short for the letter W (West coast).” Born Allah’s most recent prior release is “F**k Your Favorite Rapper Pt. 2”
@JUDAHontheBEATS A muse was needed by JUDAH to create the sequel to his globally acclaimed “Amber Rose Instrumentals,” and who better than the beautiful Lupita Nyong’o. The visionary producer links up with UK’s Dub MD for a second time to deliver this sonic art exhibition. “The Lupita Instrumentals” was inspired by the transcendent beauty and class of Lupita Nyong’o, who is known for her Academy Award® winning performance in “12 Years a Slave.”
@harnsolo performing the song “Jesus Piece" in the mountains of Sedona and Grand Canyon, Arizona. The Scott Harney directed film is the latest single from Harn SOLO’s album, “Perfect Picture”. The Crescent Kingz produced song provides an emotional soundtrack to Harn SOLO’s journey from New Orleans back home to the west coast. After spending five years performing in the south, the artist has now brought his creative spirit to Arizona and California to further advance his career. Music Connection Magazine in Los Angeles says, “Harn SOLO delivers tunes that are chockful of great samples and witty wordplay - perfect for the college rap / intellectual fan. This is hooky, smart, somewhat nerdy, even mathematical hip-hop. His tracks possess moments of stunning work.”
